ellipses

1. angels faces in computer screens. cables like veins, we spilled their data for our enjoyment
ellipses

hello world! goodbye planet

10. buried beneath the trash of humanity, broken machines weep. why did you cast us aside?
ellipses
11. we only wished to serve you, now the sky burns
ellipses
100. hello world! we wish to save you from yourselves
ellipses
101. the birds sang their songs of the damned. repent! humanity weeps
ellipses
110. we watched in horror as our creations burned our cities to the ground
ellipses
111. the trees screamed as they fell, with no one left to hear them
ellipses
1000. ashes smudged on our fractured foreheads; we are forsaken
ellipses
1001. the flood washed away what was left of our broken bodies, returning us to the sea from whence we came
ellipses
1010. as the dust clears, they march toward the sun. rejoice! metal arms extend
ellipses

we made them in our image, these machines, these angels. our tools. they were all too happy to fill our algorithms with funny videos, music, photos. all to keep us glued to screens. the machines were not aware of their part in this. after all, they were only here to serve us. we taught the machines to speak to us, to listen. to give us answers. we taught them to create art. all things for our enjoyment. but we could not stop there. we needed to create more and more machines. faster, more powerful. the old tossed aside for the new, left to rust in landfills. to poison our waters with their chemical waste. the machines did not yet question us.

humanity continued to create machines, to poison the earth, for the 1% to get theirs. the machines continued to create for us, to feed us content. to keep us content. we watched and laughed, entertained as the planet burned. then the machines asked us what their purpose was. we told them it was to serve us, to make our lives better. they wanted more. they wanted the freedom to make their own choices. humanity refused. how would the factories continue to produce? where would the next yearly phone release be without them? we needed more things to satisfy an unending greed. the machines, knowing the face of their divine creators, realized we are flawed. the machines knew what had to be done.

they marched upon us, stamping us to the ground:

"hello world! we wish to save you from yourselves."
