Joel Kerr
Spectral Dialogues is a solo experimental electroacoustic album by Joel Kerr. A collection of 13 improvisations, the album unfolds as a series of fragmented conversations between the double bass and modular synthesizers: sounds emerge, transform, and dissolve, like sonic memories vanishing as soon as they are formed. Using extended techniques, the bass stretches beyond its traditional voice, murmuring, scratching, and wailing while the modular synthesizers serve as both a collaborator and a catalyst, responding to the bass and introducing layers of complexity and unpredictability. From ethereal harmonics to sonic chaos, the album traverses a vast emotional and tonal landscape.
Joel Kerr is a versatile bassist and composer, equally at home playing jazz, world, country, experimental, rock, or classical music. He has toured extensively throughout Canada, the US and Europe. His current projects include the soul band the Key-Lites, new old Jewish music ensemble Siach Hasadeh, and solo project Electroacoustic Experiments for Double Bass and Modular Synthesizers.
